Avon has been in the respirator/gas mask business since the 1920's. The Avon S10 respirator was designed as a general service respirator to meet. For donning the C50 should be followed (or refer to the user's manual). The first on our list is the M50 gas mask from Avon. It is designed to protect against chemical and biological agents as it is categorized as a CBRN defense gear. Besides preventing the inhalation of chemical biological agents the mask offers optimal protection to the face. This is definitely a military grade respirator that would deliver the.

History[edit]
A British soldier with the S10 respirator during NBC exercises
The S10 was introduced in 1986 as a replacement for the S6 NBC Respirator[1] in service from the 1960s, and is manufactured by Avon Rubber.[2] S10s were issued to British nationals in Saudi Arabia during the 1991 Gulf War and were marked by a blue coloured PSM (Primary Speech Module) fitting or a blue painted spot on the forehead; although meant to be returned to the authorities after the Iraqi threat (from Scud missile attacks, potentially carrying chemical warheads) had expired, large numbers were unaccounted for in the wake of the conflict.[citation needed]
The S10 respirator was originally due to be replaced by the new General Service Respirator (GSR) in 2007, although replacement efforts officially began in 2011 and all S10 Respirators have since been replaced with the GSR. All issued filters for the S10 have expired, the last of which expired in 2014. No new S10 Respirators will be bought.[3]
Characteristics[edit]
Two filter canisters are issued for the S10, as with the S6; a light pressed metal type for riot control situations or training (marked with a painted red stripe or red tape), and a heavier plastic encased type for protection against NBC agents. The latter have a maximum shelf-life of 10 years, and the mask itself (the facepiece) of 20 years. The mask has many features including a fail-safe drinking device, a Secondary Speech Transmitter (SST) on the side which can accept special microphones, and corrective lenses can be fitted to the eyepieces. The mask also contains an inner mask to decrease fogging on the lenses.
Variants[edit]
Variants include:[1]
- SF10, intended for security and special forces use (replaced, at least in SAS service, by the CT12)
- AR10 for police forces
- N10, a commercial version.

Current[edit]
- Australia: Currently in use as of November 2017.[4]
- Hong Kong: S-10 and SF-10 used by the Special Duties Unit.[5][6] Being replaced by the MSA Advantage 1000 CBA-RCA.[7] Known to be used by the Police Tactical Unit during anti-riot duties.[8]
Former[edit]
- United Kingdom: Formerly issued to the British Armed Forces, but was replaced in 2011 by the General Service Respirator. It is likely that small stockpiles of S10 masks are kept for research purposes.[9]

History[edit]
The FM12 was introduced in 2000 as an intended replacement for the standard issue S10 NBC Respirator[1] in service from the 1980s. However, the FM12 was never widely adopted by the military as it was deemed too similar to the S10 to warrant total replacement of all existing S10s.
It was used, however, when an individual found that the S10 did not fit his face. They can occasionally be found on the surplus market but are considerably rarer than the S10.
Characteristics[edit]
Two filter canisters are issued for the FM12, as with the S10; a light pressed metal type for riot control situations or training (marked with a painted red stripe or red tape), and a heavier plastic-encased type for protection against NBC agents. The latter have a maximum shelf-life of 10 years, and the mask itself (the facepiece) of 20 years. The mask was designed around the S10, but has several design differences. The characteristics it shares in common with the S10 are the fail-safe drinking device, an SST (Secondary Speech Transmitter), and the ability to accept corrective lenses on the inside of the eyepiece.
However, the voice emitter and exhale valve cover is smaller than that of the S10, as are the lenses. The FM12 has an overall lower profile than the S10 and sits closer to the wearer's face. The FM12's drinking tube is also longer than that of the S10, making drinking easier while wearing the mask. The FM12 also has an inner mask to prevent fogging of the lenses. The 'ridge' present around the edge of the S10 is absent from the FM12.
The main noticeable difference between the FM12 and the S10 is the ability of some FM12's to mount two filters to the mask simultaneously, as was done by the SBS in the Gulf War. When only one filter is fitted to a mask that has the ability to accept two, a blanking plug must be used.
The harness of the FM12 consists of elastic strips, which connect to a mesh fabric piece on the back of the wearer's head. This change from the rubber straps of the S10 was designed to enable the mask to be worn for longer periods of time without discomfort, and also to hold the mask tighter to the face for a better seal.
Variants[edit]
CT12[edit]
Respirator used for counter-terrorism operations. The difference between the FM12 and the CT12 is that the CT12 has had the drinking straw removed and sealed at the factory. This is to reduce the overall weight of the respirator, as the straw is not needed in a counter-terrorist situation. This variant is considerably rarer than the FM12.
